Using this website

The information on this site is for general guidance and may change. We try to keep it accurate, but it does not form an offer or a contract; prices and details are set out in your proposal or order.

The content, design and code of this site belong to us or the people who license them to us. You may view and share pages, but not copy or reuse the content commercially without our permission.

We link to other websites for convenience. We are not responsible for their content or availability.

Our services

We provide each service as described in your proposal or order confirmation, which also sets out the price, the billing period and any minimum term or notice period. Websites, platform modules and other services not covered in the sections below are governed by those documents together with these terms.

Please keep your contact and billing details up to date, and use our services in line with our acceptable use policy.

Domain names

We register .uk domains through Nominet, the registry for the .uk namespace, of which we are a member. Other domains are registered through Tucows, as a reseller. Your registration is also subject to their terms, and for generic domains to ICANN's registrant rights and responsibilities.

  • Domains are registered for two years unless you ask for another period, and can be renewed for up to ten years.
  • Once registered, a domain cannot be cancelled, so we cannot refund a domain registered in error. It must be paid for, and it will lapse at the end of its registration period.
  • We remain the administrative contact until the registration has been paid for. After that you can ask us to change it at no extra charge.
  • We email a renewal reminder 30 days before the expiry date and again on the expiry date.
  • A .uk domain keeps working for 30 days after it expires. It is then suspended, so websites and email using it stop working, but it can still be renewed at no extra charge. About 90 days after expiry it is cancelled and anyone can register it.
  • You can move a .uk domain to another Nominet registrar free of charge once any registration or renewal fees have been paid; ask us through our support page.

Hosting and email accounts

Hosting and email accounts can be paid monthly by Direct Debit or standing order, or yearly in advance.

  • Monthly accounts: give one month's notice if you no longer need the service.
  • Yearly accounts: if you cancel in the first six months we refund 50% of the yearly fee. If you cancel in the second six months there is no refund.

Prices and payment

Prices exclude VAT unless we say otherwise. VAT is added at the current rate.

Invoices are payable on receipt. We accept bank transfer and card payments; monthly subscriptions are paid by Direct Debit or standing order.

If an invoice stays unpaid we may suspend the service it covers after telling you, and you agree to cover the reasonable costs of recovering overdue amounts.

Ending a service

You can end a service by telling us in writing, subject to the notice periods above or in your proposal. Any fees owed up to the end of the notice period remain payable.

We can end a service immediately if you seriously break these terms or the acceptable use policy, or if a court or authority requires it, and otherwise on seven days' notice by email. If we end a service for a reason that is not your fault, we refund anything you have paid for the period after it ends.

Our responsibility to you

We provide our services with reasonable care and skill. We are not liable for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for indirect or consequential loss, whether in contract, delict (including negligence) or otherwise.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are buying as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

You are responsible for the content you publish using our services, and for making sure you have the right to use the domain names you register.

General

You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our agreement. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.

We may update these terms; the date at the top of this page shows the latest version, and we will tell customers before any important change affects a service they already have.

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland, and the Scottish courts can hear any dispute.
